The
history of moss in lawns can be seen through searching the internet
for 'lawn-moss' and 'moss-lawn', (we recommend using the hyphens).
The sites that come up for 'lawn-moss' are all about getting rid of
moss in lawns. There are waay fewer sites about 'moss-lawn' and
almost no business in creating moss lawns. Nice turf lawns are the
tradition, moss has traditionally been the enemy in lawns.
If
you want moss out of your lawn- we want to remove it, and take it
away and transplant it into other lawns.
To
remove moss we rake it out. If we don't at that time need any more
moss to transplant somewhere else or if it isn't that thick and
lustrous, we spray to kill it. To kill moss we use an organic spray.
The
most common approach to moss control in a lawn is to spray with a
tank sprayer and some moss killing product. But that addresses the
result, not the cause. It is easy and inexpensive to kill moss in a
lawn and have a lawn free of moss. But it only lasts about half a
year, at most. Moss can't grow where grass is plentiful, the grass
takes up all the soil. But when other issues make grass unhealthy,
killing the moss doesn't help the grass grow more. When we renovate
lawns for people who want grass only, we change the conditions of the
lawn so the grass is healthier.
There
is no ballpark answer on why your lawn has moss in it. It's not just
a pH issue- other factors are present in varying degrees; shade, soil
composition, drainage, soil compaction and more. We offer all
approaches for you to have a grass only lawn.
