living christmas tree

Welcome, thank you for visiting The Original Living Christmas Tree Company (TOLCTC). This site is about potted Christmas tree delivery and permanent planting of Christmas trees in Portland, Oregon. Portland is the only place in the world where full-size evergreen trees in pots are delivered, picked up and planted to grow old and improve our environment.

The tradition of celebrating with decorated lit-up trees indoors during winter is a beautiful reminder of nature and spirituality. Much of the feeling imbued by a glistening evergreen is hard to put into words. The warmth and mirth of a lighted decorated tree is appreciated from within.

This website is like your friendly neighborhood Christmas tree lot. Scroll down to check out how Portlanders Christmas trees are delivered and planted. Now Christmas has it all; Spirituality, Santa and the Environment!

Here's how it works: Check out this website for all the information, the order form is below. A live Christmas tree in a pot is delivered to your door. After New Years your tree is picked up and planted for you to grow old.

We hope you enjoy a 'better than sliced bread' feeling like... "This is a great idea, something to feel good about. The trees improve the air so I'm doing my part for global warming. I just decorate and appreciate a beautiful living tree in harmony with the environment."

Check us out in the news, we've been covered locally and nationally, scroll down to the bottom of this page to see.

Thank you. It'd be an honor to provide your Christmas tree. TOLCTC 2008! Woooohooo!

Trees: The tips of the trees are around the height of the size listed below, including the pot. The shape of our trees is halfway between a natural sparse tree that grows in the forest and the sheared cone shape. The images of trees below are examples of the shape, scroll down. Care: Please read and consider the care recommendations. The following are the basics of care, no; tinsel, flock (fake snow) or big hot colored lights. The small, usually clear, pencil erasure sized lights are fine. Keep tree as cool as possible- put it near a window if possible and turn the heat down when not at home. Printed care instructions come with your tree.

Pickup: Your tree needs to be undecorated and outside your home on New Years DAY, 1/1/09 pm, before you go to bed. We start picking up the trees early morning Friday1/2/9. We finish getting the last of the trees by Tuesday 1/6/9 9 pm. Due to costs involved, if your tree is not ready for us when we arrive, you'd keep the tree and we'd keep the deposit check. Or, depending on or situation, we might be able to come back for free or for a fee, or you could drop it off to us.

When to order: We have around 400 trees to offer all of Portland this year, (because that's how many we have arranged to be planted by landscapers and parks departments and such). Order 'as soon as it's convenient' to select from our largest selection of trees. We start selling out of some kinds of trees in November. We sell out of all trees every year, usually around 12/14. Every year we run an early bird special, orders received by Halloween are $10 off, email us to get on our list for next year.

Special: If your tree needs to go up or down stairs inside your home consider ordering a smaller size tree, they weigh 60 pounds. If you're in charge of finding a tree for a business, we can deliver on 12/11 during business hours for $25 fee. If you live in an apartment or condo with a shared secure main door, there's no fee just contact us for details. If you live outside our delivery area, you'd pickup your tree (and return it). Here's our email.

Below are photos of trees we are offering this year.

While Douglas fir is by far the most popular cut Christmas tree, those millions of trees are sheared several times to become conical shape. TOLCTC works to provide a Douglas fir tree that is desirable as a Christmas tree and planting tree. The outer branches of our Douglas fir don't support the weight of ornaments, the inner branches do. Check out the photos of our Douglas fir immediately below and the decorated ones on the photos page of this website.
